Ahern Bros come from a construction family. Our late father was a construction man, working on contracts all over the world, including, Europe, Honduras, Sudan, Nigeria, South Africa, & the UK.
He loved heavy construction and as a result he traveled the world & us with him. It would therefore come as no surprise that we all ended up in the trade. In the family we have Civil Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Boat & Film Set Builders and ourselves Stone Masons. We could regale you with some fascinating stories & no doubt if we work together on a project only too happy to share.
One of the most valuable lessons that our Dad taught us was ‘ Measure Twice & Cut Once’ it is a principle that we all apply to our lives & our trade. It was his mantra & so it has become ours.
In 1999 Michael & Kieren Ahern started a small company Ahern Brothers. It was about the time that the Celtic Tiger was in its infancy. At that time we specialised in the laying of Brick, Block & Stone. We were blessed to be involved in a vast array of projects from, boundary walls, to small & large scale housing, as well as the restoration of old Stone projects. Over that last 20 years we have honed our trade and have become experts in all aspects of Stone Masonry. On this website we have a Gallery that will give some brief highlights of our work.
Restoration of old stone and brick buildings using traditional methods and utilising lime mortars have become a core element of our work. From repointing 13th century town walls in Youghal to restoring a number of churches and castles, and rebuilding old structures.
Whilst the stone mason trade is a dying art, we believe in what we do, we are passionate about the work, the challenges and most of all the stone. More recently we have been involved in a substantial number of restoration projects including, Churches, Old Historic Buildings, Castles, Old Brick restoration & Re-pointing.
